Today is the last day of April, meaning tonight is Walpurgis night. As a celebration of spring’s arrival and the end of winter bonfires are lit all over Sweden. Most towns arrange these fires often along with singing of a choir.
Most years we light our own fire here at the farm. Being in the countryside with nature surrounding us spring gives quite a lot of old branches and such to burn. However, the warm weather and the lack of rain this last month has left the nature very very dry. Many towns will not light the fires tonight due to the risk of them spreading and nor will we. Instead I and the cats will have a calm evening at home, enjoying the extra mid-week day off tomorrow.
